Balvenie Peat Week 2003 Description
This 14 year old from Speyside's Balvenie distillery is a limited edition created using traditional Highland peat to dry the barley. Heavily peated at 30ppm, the Highland peat gives the barley earthy, woody smoke notes, and quite a different taste to the iodine, salt and medicinal character associated with Islay peated malts. The result of trials undertaken in 2001, this single vintage was distilled in 2003 and aged for 14 years in American oak casks before bottling at 48.3% abv without chill filtration.
Nose: a gentle peat smoke wisps through lighter floral notes with delicate butterscotch honey.
Palate: rounded and velvety with a balance of peat smoke and citrus fruits, oaky vanilla and blossom honey.
Finish: creamy vanilla sweetness lingers with a gentle smoke.
