This dram is steeped in Scottish tradition: made according to the historic technique described in Professor George Saintsbury's 1920 book, Notes on a Cellar. The expression is made from cask that is constantly topped up with different whiskies and never emptied. This one began with our original living cask blend ,1745, and then topped up with a selection of carefully chosen Highland malts over the years.

After blending, Nikka reserves and marries them in used casks for between 3 and 6 months to allow the elements to stabilise and harmonise.

This Highland expression has been matured in American Oak casks, including a period of finishing in the finest first-fill Chardonnay wine casks, which brings notes of orchard fruit, blossom honey and toasted oak.
