Aultmore

Aultmore distillery was built in 1895 and was fitted with a steam engine to replace its original water wheel power system. This steam engine ran for 24 hours a day for seventy years! The distillery was forced into closure following the barley shortage during World War I and it was bought over by John Dewar and Sons for £20,000 in 1923, before becoming one of Diageo’s brands. Now the distillery is home to four stills, and the original steam engines are still on display for visitors to see.
