BenRiach 16 year old

Rich and pleasurable dram

An expression from BenRiach that deviates from what I imagine from a classic Speyside malt. Lashings of cereals and vanilla on the nose, with a underlying whiff of maple coated pecans and butterscotch. Classic BenRiach on the palate, bold spice turns to a rich creamy texture with a big hit of cereal and digestive biscuits. This coupled with candied orange peel and caramel make for a very pleasurable dram. The finish is quite dry and seems to last an age. Overall, one of the better malts I’ve tried from Speyside in the past few months. It’s easy to see why this whisky won Best Speyside Malt and the 2015 Icon of Whisky Awards.
