What happens when Hebridean peat smoke meets Caribbean rum and Mexican tequila? Castaway. Aptly named, 'Castaway' brings to mind sun-drenched islands, and salty sea air. Master Blender, Julieann Fernandez, has taken the bold island character that Tobermory's Ledaig brand is known for and given it an unexpected twist, with maturation in Caribbean rum casks and Mexican tequila casks. The result is a whisky of vivid contrasts. The well known peat is present and unmistakable, but it's lifted by exotic fruit. At 61.1% ABV, bottled without chill-filtration and with natural colour, there is an adventurer in us all that deserves to try this Castaway release. Read More

Hamish Says...

Our Hamish has had a sip and jotted down his thoughts.

Nose: Coastal peat smoke with caramelised banana, lime zest, and vanilla. Green apple, white pepper, and a hint of sea spray.

Palate: Bold smoky spice leads, balanced by grilled pineapple, brine, and herbal agave. Black pepper, charred citrus, and rich toffee develop through the mid-palate.

Finish: Long and warming with smouldering peat embers, demerara sweetness, chilli heat, and a final twist of lime.
