Annandale Man O’ Words Founder’s Selection 2016 Sherry Cask is a real treat from Annandale Distillery. Cask 459 started life as an American oak hogshead, seasoned with Oloroso sherry, before being filled with whisky. To keep the balance just right, the whisky was moved into refill hogsheads in 2019, where the slower maturation process allowed it to develop beautifully. Bottled at 60.8% ABV, it’s in its natural colour with no chill filtration. Expect rich notes of caramelised brown sugar and dried fruits that really shine through.

Our Hamish has had a sip and jotted down his thoughts.
Nose: An initial blast of creamy vanilla and caramel followed by fresh orchard fruits, grape skin and hints of oak.
Palate: Fresh summer berries, including blackcurrant and blackberries, precede hints of creamy vanilla, caramelising sugar, almonds and hazelnuts with a warm buttery finish.
