This 5-year-old Islay single malt was distilled at Bruichladdich in 2012 using 100% Islay grown Concerto barley harvested from Irene's Field, Octomore Farm. Peated to a huge 133ppm and matured in a combination of 1st fill ex-American, 3rd fill virgin oak, 2nd fill Rivesaltes, 2nd fill Syrah and 2nd fill bourbon casks, only 18,000 bottles have been produced at a strength of 62.9% abv. Our Hamish has had a sip and jotted down his thoughts.
Nose: malted barley and Horlicks with black tea, heather smoke and golden syrup.
Palate: more golden syrup, smoked tea and malted barley with fruity pear and peach melba atop sea spray and heather.
Finish: smoky with toasted oak and rye bread.
