Penderyn 6 Year Old Batch 2 Home Nations Series That Boutique-y Whisky Company Description
Wales has not always been known for commercially available whisky, but if this gem from That Boutique-y Whisky Company is anything to go by, those days are sure to be over. This one is from the Penderyn Distillery. Aged for six years in an STR cask (don’t worry, we’ll explain this in just a jiff), it is an outturn of 433 bottles and is presented at 50% abv. This is the second batch of this malt from this distillery famous for its Madeira finishing.
This single-cask whisky has ‘The Mark of the Swan’, i.e., Penderyn’s Master Blender Jim Swan. He created a mysterious formula for shaving, toasting and re-charring the red-wine hogsheads, the cask in which this was matured. The charcoal filter between the spirit and the cask also draws out impurities, a delicately balanced dram.
Nose: sweet vanilla pods, apricots, cut hay, summer fruits.
Palate: apricots, red grapes, vanilla, yeast.
Finish: apricot, oily fruitiness.
