Part of the Diageo 2017 Special Releases, this Islay single malt is the 17th in a series of annual releases from the now closed distillery of Port Ellen. This release equals the oldest ever Port Ellen at 37 years old. Distilled in 1979 and filled to refill American oak hogsheads and butts to mature, only 2,988 individually numbered bottles have been released worldwide at a cask strength of 51% abv.
Nose: peat reek and charred wax with floral notes and tropical fruits.
Palate: incredibly smooth with an oily texture and sweet fruit notes, followed by citrus lemon and spicy smoked meats before a building dark chocolate and scented wood smoke.
Finish: smooth, warming and spicy with digestive biscuits and green grapes amidst charred oak.
