Unusual character for a Speyside malt, though typical of the style and flavour of 19th century Speyside whiskies.
BenRiach Curiositas achieves a peat richness through the use of malted barley dried in the traditional way over peat infused kilns, and as such is particularly unusual for a Speyside malt. Traditionalists believe that peated malts achieve optimum balance of peat-bittersweet and oak infusion after 10 years of maturation.
Nose: Sweet heather burning on the moor.
Palate: Initial vanilla sweetness gives way politely to spices wreathed in smoke.
Finish: Dry and reminiscent of the smoke from a wood fire.
