Famous for its sherry cask whiskies, the distillery was built in 1825 by a group of locals, and was bought by Billy Walker of BenRiach distillery in 2008, before being sold to Brown-Forman in 2016.
This 12 year old expression won Gold at the 2016 International Wine & Spirit Competition in the 10-12 year old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky category.
Nose: Rich red grapes and juicy dark raisins.
Palate: Deep, dark, rich and full bodied. Plenty of dark chocolate with mulled fruits in marmalade.
Finish: Long and full of dried mixed fruits.
Had too much turkey and can’t fit in the Christmas pud? Have a dram of this sherried beaut instead. The nose of red berries and plum isn’t misleading; it’s more of the same in spades on delivery, with a dark chocolate version of Cadbury’s Fruit and Nut dunked in sherry. Brown sugar, how come you taste so good…
Great whisky - sweet and fruity
I think the old Spanish Pedro and Oloroso casks give the whisky a lovely rich, sweet fruitiness, with lots of the kind of chewy toffee flavours you normally find in a good cognac. A great whisky!
The sherry, oh the sherry. This , to me, is one of the best sherry cask drams out there. It just oozes with a deep fruitiness and creamy vanilla.
Just to nose this wonderful whisky and I’m transported back to cold winter evening sitting round an open fire, in the company of loved ones
with a glass of GlenDronach in my hand. Roll on winter.
