Macallan Single Malt Whisky
The Macallan distillery is situated in Craigellachie, in the Highlands of Scotland. Originally licensed to Alexander Reid in 1824, it started life as the Elchies Distillery. In 1965, it doubled the number of stills to twelve, and by 1975 there were twenty-one – this increase was due to the increasing popularity of the brand. It is now famous for its traditional small copper stills, which give the whisky a rich and fruity character. Sherry casks have been most commonly used but recently Macallan have brought out a range of bourbon-matured Fine Oak casks, which have been popular and award winning. It is famous for featuring in James Bond movies, where the 12 Year Old has been the preferred tipple of both M and 007 himself.
