43.4% vol. / 50cl
The first release in the luxurious Mortlach range, with a combination of bourbon and sherry matured whisky to create a spicy, rich and flavoursome whisky. The Rare Old expression balances distillery character with cask influence to create a wonderfully tasty dram with a meaty character reminiscent of one of the distillery's former bottlings - the 16 year old Flora and Fauna edition. The bottles for this range are designed to reflect Victorian engineering designs in a tribute to one of the key figures in Mortlach's history, George Cowie, a civil engineer.
Nose: Nutty at first, with cinnamon and dried fruits. Some drier, leafy touches beneath.
Palate: Rich and oily, with dark chocolate and fudge flavours. Beatiful balance of sherry on the tongue.
Finish: Light and sweet, full of flavours.
