Kingsbarns 7 Year Old Single Cask Ex-Bourbon Barrel
This remarkable wee whisky from the new Kingsbarns distillery is a true testament to the marvels of natural oak cask maturation. The Lowland expression has been matured for seven years in a single ex-bourbon barrel, with only 244 bottles gracing our shelves. Presented at a robust 62% abv, this one reminds me of a typical Scottish childhood, with notes of foam bananas, sugar coated apples and liquorice.
Old Malt Cask Mortlach 2009 12 Year Old HL19626
As part of their esteemed Old Malt Cask collection, Hunter Laing proudly presents this exceptional Mortlach expression. The Speysider has been aged for 12 years in a single carefully chosen refill hogshead (ref. 19262), and bottled at 50% abv, with only 516 bottles released. You can find a lovely malty sweetness in this one, with wee touches of red berries and caramel.
Berry Bros. & Rudd Glen Garioch 2011 #08028
Berry Bros. & Rudd, the very posh wine and spirit merchants based in the Big Smoke, present a special single cask bottling from Glen Garioch distillery in Inverurie. Matured for 12 years, with a two-year finish in a first-fill Oloroso sherry cask, this Highland expression has been bottled at a huge 58.4% abv. Only 433 bottles have been produced, each holding Christmass-y flavours of dried fruit, wood smoke, oak spice.
Highland Park 22 Year Old Platinum Old & Rare
Distilled at Highland Park Distillery in Orkney, this Highland whisky is a part of Hunter Laing & Co.'s Platinum Old & Rare selection. The spectacular expression was aged for 22 years in a single refill barrel, with a yield of just 163 bottles. Bottled at a massive cask strength of 56.9% abv, perhaps a drop of water is in order to unlock the flavours of orange, milk chocolate, raisins and soft peat smoke.
Duncan Taylor Ardmore 2009 13 Year Old
From renowned bottlers Duncan Taylor, this 13-year-old single malt was distilled at Ardmore distillery, located near Aberdeen. Aged in a single oak cask, the superb peated expression is one only of 232 bottles and decanted at a cask strength of 53.8% abv. This one brings complex savoury notes of buttery croissants, roasted almonds and herbal oak.
First Editions Craigellachie 2007 14 Year Old
A highly impressive dram released as part of Hunter Laing & Co.'s First Editions series, this 14-year-old Craigellachie was distilled in 2007 and was laid to rest in a single sherry butt. In 2022, just 553 bottles of this expression were filled at a cask strength of 56.9% abv. This one brings to mind afternoon tea, with notes of Earl Grey, raspberries and thick toffee. Lovely!
Battlehill Glenrothes 2009 12 Year Old
We know a special expression when we see one. This Glenrothes Twelve Year Old is a standout from the much-loved Speyside distillery. After a maturation in oak casks, the dram underwent a cognac finish - resulting in a delectable flourish of roasted almonds, espresso, honey, dried fruits and malty biscuits. Mouth-watering stuff!
Tomatin 1989 32 Year Old Connoisseurs Choice
An outstanding 32-year-old expression from Tomatin. Sweet and fruity, this dram spent its lifetime maturing in a single refill American oak hogshead before being bottled for Gordon & MacPhail's Connoisseurs Choice series. The perfect summertime whisky, with notes of baked apples, grapefruit peel, Seville oranges.
