Our Story

Loch Fyne Whiskies forms an important part of the fabric of the incredibly picturesque fishing town of Inveraray on the shores of Loch Fyne, Argyll.  It was founded in 1993 by Richard Joynson, when he opened a small shop on the fringes of the town.  He subsequently moved the operation to the prominent position it presently occupies.

Described as an ‘Aladdin’s Cave’ of Scotch whiskies this is a must visit for anyone on the West Coast tourist trail of Scotland.  The founder, himself a devoted whisky enthusiast, formed an enduring bond with his customers by concentrating on personal service and unique and interesting whiskies.  Today this legacy lives on.  It is an immensely personal business with a selection of its own exclusive whiskies in The Loch Fyne range that are true to its roots.

The original premises are being converted into a warehouse to store Loch Fyne’s unique Living Cask malt whisky so as to maintain a link with where it all began.

Locations

We’re on the main street in Inveraray on the road to the Isles. Typing PA32 8UD into your satnav will get you here, but where’s the fun in that? We believe there’s something to be said for the traditional approach when it comes to both direction finding and whisky production.

Why not stop the car and ask someone? You could get into a whisky conversation even before you arrive here. Or you could always look out for Hamish outside our shop – he’s a life-sized plastic whisky expert who often rewards you for finding him with a wee tipple.

And of course you could just follow your nose - the aroma of whisky usually wafts tantalisingly down the street, merging with the smell of the sea here on the shores of Loch Fyne.

In June 2018, we opened a new shop in Edinburgh's Cockburn Street, just off the Royal Mile and a stone's throw from both the castle and Waverley Station. Step off the street and into our little home from home, bringing a wee piece of Inveraray to the Scottish capital! Hamish might not have made the trip to meet you, but you can be sure of a warm welcome from our staff who are just as keen as ever to discuss our favourite spirit.
