Lagavulin 8 Year Old

200 years ago Lagavulin began legal distillation. Fast forward to 2016 and the world renowned distillery is still producing whisky of the highest standard. 

In the 1880's Alfred Bernard tasted and fell in love with a remarkable 8 year he described as "exceptionally fine" Inspired by this beautiful expression, Lagavulin are celebrating their 200th Anniversary by recreating that exceptional 8 year old from all those years ago.

Our Hamish has had a sip and jotted down his thoughts.

Pale gold with faint green lights, American oak refill casks, light bodied. Powerfully phenolic, carbolic soap, backed by smouldering peat with bergamot; nose-drying and maritime (road salt, iodine). A thin texture, but a full-on Lagavulin taste: sweet, smoky, warming, with a very long finish and a lingering aftertaste of smoke.
