Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2013

Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2013 Description
We love it when distilleries find new ways of cherishing their local surroundings. Using barley grown at Kentraw, just a mile away from the distillery, Bruichladdich believe this is the first time in history that an Islay single malt has been made exclusively from 100% Islay grown grain. Distilled in 2013, this is a heavily peated Islay. At a strength of 50% abv, this is bottled with Islay spring water. It is non chill filtered, and colouring free. The first step of its maturation last seven years, in a parcel of ex-American whiskey barrels. Then it is given a flourish in first fill French wine casks, before then being married together.
A fantastically local, yet contemporary dram. Our advice? Try this one neat.
Nose: floral notes of lilies, orange zest, cherry coconut and malted barley.
Palate: rich coffee, dark chocolate, coconut, caramel, light peat smoke.
Finish: huge smoky finish, fruit, oak and floral notes melt into each other.
